About Me

My photo
United States
My husband and I started yard selling about 20 years ago when our two boys were in elementary school. It was something we enjoyed and we could do together without them. It also made it possible for me to decorate our home on a budget. We love old rustic things that we can use either the way we find them or by doing what is necessary to make them part of our home. Having a talented partner makes it nice for refinishing / repairing some of the things we buy and when I have an idea of some unique thing I want in my home, he is usuaally able to build it for me. We also build and paint decorations for our family and friends that I will be sharing. Most of them are for Christmas so I should be posting alot very soon. I hope you enjoy looking.

Halloween has always  been by least favorite holiday.  The last couple of years I have tried to find some decorations I could make that would help be get more excited about decorating for that terrible holiday.   I don't have much but its a start.

The hat my husband and I created after seeing something like it at a store.   I made the Wicked Blocks with the colors I have discovered I love enough to make the holiday a little more tolerable.  The candle stick holder was an ugly flowered mess when I bought it at a thrift store for .49 cents and finally the two blocks we made (soooooooo easy).

.
The Candy, happy halloween block\ and frame for the subway art we made.

Fall Decorating is my second favorite season to decorate for.  Probably because the colors of fall are the colors I use to decorate my house all year.   I really love Tuscan but I also find it almost too formal for my home so I will keep trying to find MY Tuscan style but I'm afraid it will take me some time to pull it all together.  Especially since I know I will be leaving the house I am in sometime in the next two years (hopefully).

Out of all these pictures there's is only one that has a craft that we made but lots of clearance items and a couple of yard sale items.

I need to find a way to take pictures that make my items look as good as the blogs I love to go to get decorating ideas.   Or is it just my stuff? I hope not.

So much time has passed and we have been so busy I haven't posted anything forever.

Last weekend we finally finished the chairs we got to go with the table I mentioned over a year ago. The table was found on Craig's list, for $30.00, by one of my son's who knew his older brother was in the market for a cheap table he could turn in to a poker table.  I LOVED it the moment I saw it and told him if he ever wanted to get rid of it he needed to give it to me. Well He did.........We stripped it then painted and did an antique glaze on the base and stained the top.  About a year later, at a yard sale, we found some chairs we thought would look very nice with it.  They were green so I needed to paint and finish them to match the table base and Mike stripped the seats and stained them to match the table top.  I LOVE the way it turned out. Even though it took two years... it was worth the wait.
This is the Base and the top of the table before.

The next two pictures are of the chair alone and the four newly purchased chairs with the finished table.

Now for the finished project.
I really love it and hope to Never get rid of  it.  We don't have much money into it but we made up for it with lots of hours of love and hard work

It's almost June and we've been Yard selling a couple of times.  We really enjoy going and I love it when I get decorations that can be added to what I already have. I think every yard sale item I'm about to show was less than $1.00 for each one.

Some of these we bought years ago but all of it was found at yard sales except the olive jar on the right.

The Hens were the only items I got a store.

Everything but the pitcher, the lemons and the jar they are in we got at yard sales this year.

I love these old pop bottles and crates.  Maybe it's because my father worked at a pop bottling company most of my childhood. I won't say which one since two different companies are represented in this picture.
I found the sconce at Ross and it reminded me of the old pop bottles so I had to at least try it with this arrangement.

I have so many more things we found in years passed but those are the only pictures I took today since my husband wanted to work on an amazing table we are refinishing.  I hope to post pictures later this summer.

Valentine's Day project

I found this project on Pinterest and knew immediatly it would be fun to make for me and my kids.   While showing the idea to a friend another friend overheard and placed an order.   "Don't you want to see if I can even accomplish this before you order?"  was my response.   So this is for her to look at and make her decision.

PARTS OF MINE ARE A LITTLE ON THE WILD SIDE
I WANTED TO MAKE MINE ALL ABOUT  VALENTINES DAY AND A LOT OF BLING.
JUST REDS FOR ONE SON AND DIL TO MATCH THEIR HOME AND  A  LITTLE LESS BLING .
NO PICTURES, NOT MUCH PINK AND HARDLY ANY BLING FOR THE  BACHELOR.

The frame on the right hand side of the last picture is one of the gifts we gave them for Christmas.   The middle part with the heart is attached with velcro so it can be removed.  I made a theme for every month as well as one that just says "Welcome to our home".
